INSPIRATION BOOK
ILLUMINATION
AMFI 1st SEMESTER PROJECT
The title of my inspiration book is Illumination. Without light, we would be nowhere. Just like we would be nowhere without inspiration. The overall theme of the book is about shedding new light onto already existing subjects and changing your view on them.
OPPOSITES ATTRACT
The first chapter is called Opposites Attract. It is about two contradicting subjects coming together and forming a cohesive unity. It is much easier to create contrast, but bringing two fighting parties together is much harder. Fashion is a great medium for bringing together clashing opposites. By combining opposites you can create new shapes, materials and structures which no one had ever thought of before.
The second chapter is called New Fashion(ed). Fashion is always in motion and changing day by day. In order to be relevant, it has to be innovative. Of course, it can draw inspiration from the past, but if fashion only looks back it will not move forward.
That is why this chapter is all about innovations in and for fashion. Taking inspiration from product design, architecture, science, biology and of course fashion itself. Creating new and innovative shapes, materials and ways to produce and design.
NEW FASHION(ED)
BEAUTY IN THE BEAST
The third and final chapter is called Beauty in the Beast. The fashion industry is an industry-driven on aesthetics. But pretty is boring and that is what a part of this chapter is about. Finding beauty and inspiration in the ugly and distorted.
The other side of this chapter is about the dark side of beauty. Beauty can be a facade, hiding the terrible truth behind a seemingly beautiful image. This is also very true for the fashion industry. Behind many of those mesmerizing clothes lies a very disturbing story. A story of pollution, destruction and slavery.
