3D HYPERCRAFT
SPECIALISATION
INSPIRATION
For my fifth semester, I have enrolled in the specialisation 3D Hypercraft. In which I aim to explore the world of Digital Design and 3D Development.
My ambition within 3D Hypercraft was to explore the boundaries of what is possible from the physical to the digital world and vice versa. Therefore, the inspiration behind the project lies at the opposite end of technology, NATURE.
The specific topic I got inspired by is called Biophilia. This is a hypothesis which was popularised by the biologist Edward O. Wilson. In the book. he wrote on the topic, he describes how we are intricately connected to nature and other lifeforms through and that we have preferences towards all things natural because of our Biological evolution. But the relationship goes beyond affinity.
"BIOPHILIA, A THEORY OF PRIMAL HUMAN BEHAVIOUR WHICH DESCRIBES HOW WE AS HUMAN BEINGS ARE INTRICATELY CONNECTED TO NATURE AND THEREFORE WE CHERISH A LOVE FOR ALL LIFE AND LIVING SYSTEMS. WE EXPERIENCE BIOPHILIA THROUGH OUR SENSES OF AND IT IS ABLE TO HEAL US BOTH MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY."
Since Biophilia is experienced through the senses I decided to focus on one topic specifically: tactility. I wanted to create garments which were able to carry the stress-relieving powers of nature through texture.
The Tree textures I was most inspired by are MOSS, TREE BARK & HYDRANGEAS.
I did not want the clothes to solely bring relaxation to the individual wearer but bring greater good to the masses. Therefore, I decided to go with menswear. Talking about mental health awareness amongst men is still a taboo.
Businesswear seemed like the perfect genre as this is a part which still carries the traditional thought of masculine power.
AND SO NURTURE WAS BORN. A DIGITAL COLLECTION USING BIOPHILIC TEXTURES PLACED WITHIN A RELAXING FRAM OF CLASSIC BUSINESS WEAR. SOOTHING STRESSED MINDS IN THE PROCESS OF RECONNECTING MENS' RELATIONSHIP TO NATURE
